Cape Town Fashion Week

So after much stalling on this, the final schedule for Cape Town Fashion week has been released and it’s freche-freche-freche – living up to the REFRESH, REVIVE, RENEW theme this year! With the support of Cape Town’s well established Cape Town Fashion Council, Cape Town Fashion Week has a line-up that sees a lot of young talent being given a platform to launch their brands (under Foschini and Woolworths). It also revisits some brands that have been silent for a number of years: Craig Native being one of them. However, my new-found (not so new though) favourite designer, David West, will also be showing – what that boy can do to a plain white shirt is beyond belief! – and my sentiments are resonated by those who have visited his studio/shop at the Old Biscuit Mill (Woodstock).

Show Schedule:
Thursday – 12 August 2010:
15h00 The Graduate Show sponsored by Foschini
18h00 Copella/ Suzaan Heyns
19h15 Michelle Ludek / Doreen Southwood
20h30 Good Clothing / Tart (we all love a good tart! quirky, skaterboy/surfergirl/rock-chic - love their tees!)
21h30 Klük CGDT (this was quite a surprise given that they weren't going to show and now they are back on?)

Friday – 13 August 2010 (Friday the 13th… fun and creep ain it?)
18h00 David West
19h15 Craig Port (Women’s line) with Kim Govaars
20h30 Stoned Cherrie featuring Love Movement (finally! After the questionable no-show at Africa Fashion Week - we hope “can’t show because Ghana is playing” excuses will not surface! Yes, I was peeved off by that.)
21h30 Southern Sun Swimwear featuring Dax Martin (who has just had a successful showing in Las Palmas - Spain), Lovewater Love (who had such a cute lingerie show two years ago) and Craig Port (men’s line I’m assuming?)

Saturday – 14 August 2010
15h00 Take Care / Wild Fig / August (the latter two had very everyday wearable garments in their January Audi Joburg Fashion Week so I’m looking forward to seeing their spin on the everyday attire – take note ladies!)
16h30 Undacova/ Ruff Tung
18h00 The Emerging Show sponsored by Woolworths
19h15 Viyella
20h30 Stefania Morland
21h30 – Craig Native in association with Tech Station (PS are his clothes still available Edgars? The ex Lenny Kravitz stylist has been off the scene for so long that at after hearing that he’s showing, I exhausted my already depleted funds to get myself to Cape Town – no pressure Craig, just make sure I do not regret that move, lol!).

The fashion experience does not end there – no, no! – the successful onsite AFI Boutique that ran during Africa Fashion Week will also be in Cape Town this season. This is where Cape Tonians can get their fix of David Tlale and Thula Sindi garments which are difficult to come by in this city (Buyers and Stockists, take note!).
While I am still on that topic – where is the proposed AFI online boutique? Or is that scheduled to come later?
Tickets to see the shows are available at
www.webtickets.co.za or onsite at the AFI Boutique, Ground Floor CTICC.
